Community Standards

Our Commitment

The Mineral Physics Institute is committed to maintaining an academic community in which every student, faculty member, and staff member can pursue teaching, research, and service to the best of their ability. Excellence in scholarship depends on an environment defined by professionalism, mutual respect, and fair treatment. This statement describes the standards of conduct we expect from every member of our department community.

Core Standards

Respect and Professional Conduct

We expect all members of the institute to treat one another with courtesy and professionalism in classrooms, laboratories, meetings, and all institute-sponsored activities. Disagreement and rigorous debate are part of academic life; personal disrespect, harassment, and intimidation are not.

Academic Freedom and Open Inquiry

The Mineral Physics Institute supports the free exchange of ideas and rigorous, evidence-based inquiry as foundational to our mission. Members of our community are expected to engage with differing viewpoints in good faith and to extend the same intellectual respect they expect to receive.

Collegiality and Collaboration

Fulfilling the mission of the Mineral Physics Institute depends on effective collaboration. We expect faculty, staff, and students to communicate constructively, to support one another's professional development, and to contribute to a functional, productive department community.

Compliance with University Policy

All members of the Mineral Physics Institute are expected to comply with University policies regarding nondiscrimination, harassment, research conduct, and workplace conduct. These policies apply equally to every member of our community.
